Three aspiring candidates for the Kawempe North Parliamentary by-election were duly nominated on Wednesday by the National Independent Electoral Commission.
The two-day nomination exercise that is taking place at the EC offices in Kawempe Division along Gayaza Road is supervised by the Kampala District Electoral Returning Officer, Henry Makabayi.
In his speech, he has urged all stakeholders to adhere to the electoral guidelines to ensure a transparent and safe electoral process ahead of the by-elections scheduled for March 13th 2025.
Among those nominated on Wednesday include; Elias Luyimbazi Nalukoola of the National Unity Platform (NUP), Hajjat Hanifah Karadi and Muhammad Luswa Luwemba both independents.
While addressing journalists after nomination, Counsel Nalukoola condemned security forces for their continued intimation and witch-hunting of the opposition supporters and candidates.
Nalukoola however hastened to add that they are steadfast to ensure that they secure the victory in the upcoming by-elections.
Meanwhile, Luswa Luwemba, who is a former aide to the late area MP, Muhammad Ssegirinya, has advised the EC to manage the election unlike before where security forces have always taken over the Commission’s activities and mandate, which compromises its ability to deliver a free and fair election.
The Kawempe Division North parliamentary seat fell vacant on January 9th 2025 following the death of Muhammad Ssegirinya in Lubaga Hospital.
