Twelve couples exchanged their marriage vows on Friday as they marked Valentine’s Days at the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) and the Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) offices in Kampala.
Three couples tied the knot at the NIRA offices while nine did the same at the URSB offices in Kampala.
Speaking during the function at the NIRA headquarters at Kololo, the NIRA Executive Director, Rosemary Kisembo said on many occasions, people are overjoyed on their wedding days but many forget the most important aspect of registering their marriage.
She also explained that it is dangerous for any marriages not to be registered hence asking women to ensure that they take the lead in following up this matter since they are the most affected whenever things do not work out.
Speaking to the couples at the function, Kisembo explained that this type of marriage is usually cheaper and only attracts a few people normally close friends and relatives, hence urging people especially young couples to take it up.
